The Association of Canada China Business, Culture, Innovation Exchange (CCBCIE), with funding support from the New Horizons Seniors Program, Government of Canada, successfully hosted the “Senior Safety and Wellness Expo” on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the People Theatre for the Performing Arts (22 Esna Park Drive, Markham, ON, L3R 1E1).

This was a free event open to all seniors. The program ran from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM and featured four informative seminars. Topics included fraud prevention for seniors, followed by a presentation by registered social worker Jeff Lai from the Carefirst Centre on “How to Enjoy Life – Ways to Reduce Loneliness,” and “Today’s Seniors – What’s Trending Now?” The final seminar was led by Tai Chi Master Zhang Xiaojun, who spoke about Tai Chi and health. Her student, Susan, also shared her personal and inspiring story of how Tai Chi helped her overcome cancer.

Following each seminar, the event host engaged seniors with interactive Q&A games related to the seminar topics, and a large number of exquisite gifts were distributed. These gifts were generously sponsored by Nations Fresh Foods.

In addition to the educational seminars, complimentary light refreshments and beverages were provided to attending seniors. Participants also enjoyed a 24-Form Tai Chi performance by Master Zhang Xiaojun and her students, with opportunities for audience members to join and practice together. Various community organizations—including the Markham District 6 Seniors Association, Star Light Association, Childlike Heart Association, and Joyful Life Association—also delivered various performances, including singing, dancing, and Tai Chi demonstrations, creating a meaningful and joyful afternoon for all seniors.

Furthermore, exhibition booths were set up in the theatre lobby featuring product displays, senior services, and community organizations such as Carefirst Centre, the Canadian Multicultural Association, Nations Fresh Foods and iTalkBB. These booths distributed small gifts and provided valuable information on senior services, ensuring that all participants left with both enjoyment and useful resources.
